In the 1919 edition of "Industrial Sheffield and Rotherham", Ward & Payne was described as being one of "the oldest firms in Sheffield" with a 115 year history.

1. Mark; Blade; "WARRANTED" arched over a curved border that encloses a set of crossed hammers over an anvil flanked by the letters "W" and "P" over *WARD over CAST STEEL" stamped in a shaped, serrated, rectangular border.
